Once you've got your 45s in to your scribe lines, slowly start making the angle of your jig shallower (tighten or loosen the screws depending on the jig). As you do this and make passes on your grinder, you'll notice where the steel is being removed and where your bevel height is increasing.

The unit came with a straight jig, an angle guide to set the grinding angle, and honing paste. You will need to consider buying a wheel dressing jig for a further $55 to flatten and true the stone edge, an important accessory. Set the grinder's tool rest to a 90 degrees angle, and move the stick back and forth against the wheel's surface. Move the stick slowly to remove less metal and get a smoother surface on the wheel. This way, you will also get a finer surface on your chisel. Now you need to sharpen your chisel.

A jig grinder is a machine tool used for grinding complex shapes and holes where the highest degrees of accuracy and finish are required.. The jig grinder is very similar to a jig borer, in that the table positioning and spindles are very accurate (far more so than a manual milling machine or lathe). It is almost exclusively used by tool and die makers in the creation of jigs or mating holes ...

You grind the bevel any way you want to. Bench grinders take a bit of skill to avoid burning the edges and softening the steel. So feel free to use your honing guide to form the primary bevel on a few sheets of sandpaper stuck on glass or granite, on a coarse diamond plate, on a motorized sandpaper platter, or any way that is convenient.

I think it's more about how you use the tool than the angle. A beginner will get worse cut with a 40/40 than a skilled turner will get with a 55 degree edge. It's all about how the wood crosses the cutting edge, the proper feed rate so you cut the wood instead of tear it, and of course how sharp the tool is.

I cut a 25º bevel on one end and a 30º bevel on the other. The tool rest is set by eye so that the wheel contacts the bevel of the template, using the desired angle, in the center. If you set the tool rest for a 3/16" thick tool and grind a 1/8" thick tool your bevel will be more obtuse than desired.

Then using the bolt hole, place the nail through the blade. Once you have that done, assess the blade again. One side may need a little more metal taken off than the other. When you spot the imbalance, return the blade to the bench grinder and remove the excess metal. You may have to do this more than once. 7.

I set the vari-grind jig to the 23° while using the 2" stick out and the grind comes out very pointy. I found that if I set the vari-grind to something around 40°+ I get a nice rounded point. I also grind the wings swept back because I like to use the wings for shearing and scraping as well. I use the jig with the raptor setup jigs as well.

For those who use jigs when grinding, the cutting angles on tools change every time a conventional wheel is dressed because the diameter of the wheel is reduced. Unless the jig is readjusted frequently, cutting angles are changing. With conventional wheels, your jig's grinds may not be nearly as repeatable and consistent as you think.

The trick with soft pads like Gooey is to use a more coarse sanding belt/disc for the initial shape. If you use too fine a grit it tends to pull at the rubber rather than cut it. I only go to the fine grit when at the finish stage. This is more for the plastic to get it nice and shiny.
