If you take 2 similar sub-samples (with same sample mass) from the entire crushed core, you will have a LARGER duplicate variance due to the factor (1/MS - 1/ML), MS being the sample mass (not changed) and ML being the lot mass (doubled when the lot is the entire core compared to the 1/2 core).
